Understanding the Addiction Cycle

Understanding your teen's experience of addiction can be a challenging journey. By gaining clarity on the underlying causes of their struggles, you can see beyond the surface behaviors and connect with their deeper needs. Your empathy and understanding can transform their experience.

Your Role in Their Journey

Discover how to effectively support your teen through connection, communication, vulnerability, and repair, empowering you to be a guiding light in their path to healing. Our Parent Partnership Pathway serves to provide such a road map on how to engage in the complexities of your teens’ struggles.

The Parent Partnership Pathway

Online Parent Community

When your teen joins 423 Next, you’re invited into a private online community of parents navigating the complexities of sexual brokenness with truth, hope, and love. Whether you’re feeling anxious, hopeful, or overwhelmed—this is a safe place to land.

As a parent, your presence matters. While your teen’s healing is their own, your faithful and grace-filled support often makes the difference between addiction and restoration.

In this community, you can:

  • Find resources designed to help you understand the journey your teen is on—from biblical tools to trauma-informed insights.

  • Ask honest questions without fear of shame or judgment.

  • Share your story, your fears, your growth, and how the Lord is meeting you.

  • Join with others in prayer and encouragement, knowing you are not alone.

I’m Barb, a follower of Christ, pastor’s wife, and mom to four adult children. When one of my sons was fourteen, he confessed to watching pornography, which left me grappling with shock, anger, guilt, and shame, questioning my parenting skills, and suffering in silence due to the stigma surrounding his behavior. Despite my emotional turmoil, I had to prioritize my son's needs. By God's grace, over several years, my son overcame his addiction, our relationship was reconciled, and my wounds healed. Through this journey, I gained valuable insights into pornography's effects on children, families, and society. I authored "Sexpectations: Helping the Next Generation Navigate Healthy Relationships," founded HopefulMom.net, am certified as a mental health coach, and work as a Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist. With over twenty years of experience in discipling and counseling teens and adults, I now help parents understand their emotional responses and find their next steps to healing and effective parenting. I’d love to connect with you, offer a virtual hug, and provide practical advice and hope. You are not alone!
